About

What is Instruments of Change?

Instruments of Change is a 501(c)3 Public Charity

Our primary mission is:

“To profoundly impact the lives of disadvantaged children through the gifts of musical instrument donation, instruction and performance.”

We accomplish this mission by seeking out new and gently used musical instruments that are not being played and place them with children whose parents do not have the means to purchase an instrument of their own.

Why musical instruments?

Studies show that children who learn to play a musical instrument:

  • are more likely to graduate high school
  • are more likely to attend college.
  • tend to score higher in math and language skills.
  • are less prone to drug and alcohol abuse.
  • show an increase in self-esteem.
  • show greater confidence in their abilities.

Donate a Musical Instrument

Please consider donating a New or Gently Used musical instrument.  You can donate the musical instrument that is sitting idle in your home.  Many people have instruments they purchased for themselves, or their child, and now it sits idle.  By donating your instrument, you are making a difference in a child’s life by giving something you already have.

We have a constant need for new instruments.  Our instructional programs can always use:

  • Trumpets
  • Clarinets
  • Saxophones
  • Flutes
  • Guitars
  • Trombones
  • Violins
  • Cello’s

. . . . . and anything else you may want to donate!

Go to the Instrument Donation page and let us know what you would like to donate.

You can be an Instrument of Change!

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about Instruments of Change®.  It’s our desire to make a real difference in our community by helping improve the educational opportunities for children in economically disadvantaged areas.

The old phrase “All boats rise with the tide” really applies to the mission of Instruments of Change. Learning to play a musical instrument improves academic performance on many levels.  Children who perform better in school tend to earn more money later in life, tend to have more stable family environments, and tend to be more community minded than those who drop out of school. By teaching a child to play a musical instrument, you change their potential for success. Your investment in the children of today sets in motion a series of positive changes that echo throughout our community.

What about instruction
for the children?

Instruments of Change provides instruction for those children receiving instruments. Instruments of Change actively seeks out seeks out volunteers with experience in musical training to provide lessons for these children.

Music changes lives
and you can help!

Make a Financial Donation

Make a Financial Donation.  You can make a difference in our ability to help.  Each band program costs $15,000 per school year, but any amount can help.  Consider this:  If each person in America donates just $1 we would have enough funding to start more than 20,000 student band programs across the country!  It’s strength in numbers that matters.

Some can give more; some less.  Please do what you can to make a difference.

Volunteer to Teach Classes

If you have the ability to play a few notes on a trumpet, or three chords on a guitar, you can begin teaching a child to play. Instruments of Change will give you the tools you need to hold each class along the way.

You can be an Instrument of Change.  It’s too easy to say “Let someone else do it”.  Your talent can make a big difference in the life of a child.  Music expands their ability to learn, it improves their self-esteem, it gives them a better chance at academic and lifetime success.

Go to the Instructors Page and complete the form.
